Joseph was born in 1847 in Walton on the Hill, Surrey.1 Joseph's father was William Letts and his mother was Jane. His paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He was the youngest of five children. He had a brother and three sisters, named Frederick, Mary, Martha and Emma. 1 1851 census
