Mary was born in 1837 in Walton on the Hill, Surrey.1 Mary's father was William Letts and her mother was Jane. Her paternal grandparents were <Unknown> and <Unknown>. She was the second of five children. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Frederick, Joseph, Martha and Emma. 1 1851 census
