Catherine was born in 1849 in Enfield, Middx.1   Catherine's father was Henry Barnes and her mother was Eliza Shambrook.  Her maternal grandparents were  Daniel Shambrook and  Maria ?Males?.  She was the second of three children.  She had a brother and a sister, named James and Frances.
