Obituary from Minutes of the Wesleyan Methodist Conference 1886
LEVI WATERHOUSE who was born near New Mills ,
Derbyshire, in 1811. His mother’s religious influence was
gratefully acknowledged by him in his after life. He joined the
Church in 1829. Yielding to the Divine call. He offered himself
for the Ministry, and was sent to the Warringtom Circuit in
1835. His preaching was rich in evangelical truth, and many
conversions took place under the word. He laboured to dis-
charge all the duties of his calling, and was a faithful minister
of Jesus Christ. In all his Circuits God gave him the hearts
of the people. He was greatly beloved out side our own Church;
ministers and people held his name in honour. His piety was
deep and constant. He was a man of prayer, and drew his
power from Divine sources. The latest scene of his public
effort was the Prayer-meeting. Even when his faculties were
failing his prayers were mighty, and had power with God. He
became a Supernumerary in 1880. The last few months of his
life were passed under a deep mental cloud, but God was with
him. That which had been his constant thought for many
years still possessed him, and he was restlessly anxious to do
the work of the Lord. The cloud was not permitted to remain.
God mercifully released His servant. He died at Southport, on
April 6th, 1886, in the seventy-fifth year of his age, and the
fifty-first of his ministry.
